UCLA basketball Coach Jim Harrick and his wife, Sally, have donated $75,000 to the UCLA Athletics Campaign for an endowed basketball scholarship in the men’s program. Nine of UCLA’s 15 men’s basketball scholarships are now endowed through private donations.

UCLA Athletic Director Peter Dalis said that the Harricks’ “generosity represents a major commitment to UCLA student-athletes.

“Because their gift will generate scholarship support in perpetuity, they are helping us to maintain the long-term excellence of our program. We are immensely grateful.”

Harrick, whose Bruin teams have won 43 games and lost 21 in his two years as head coach, said: “The UCLA basketball program has had a special place in our hearts since we first became familiar with it during the 1960s.

“This gift is our way of thanking UCLA for making us a part of that program. It’s a wonderful place to be, and we hope future generations will think so too.”

Harrick, a former UCLA assistant and Pepperdine head coach, led the Bruins this season to the round of 16 teams in the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1980.
