A man suspected of robbing banks in San Diego has been arrested by FBI agents and San Diego police, authorities said Thursday.
Jammie McGregor was arrested about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday while he was sitting in a car in the 2700 block of Monroe Avenue, said Bill Robinson, a spokesman for the San Diego Police Department.
McGregor, 37, is a suspect in a series of bank robberies that began Feb. 8 at the Grossmont Bank in Hillcrest. The last robbery occurred Tuesday at California Federal in North Park. The robberies were carried out in areas throughout the city--from East San Diego to Mira Mesa--and one was in Chula Vista. The amounts of money taken ranged from $300 to $3,500, Robinson said.
Robinson said the robber would hand tellers a demand note that said: “You are being robbed. I have a gun.”
No gun was ever seen during the robberies, and one was not found when McGregor was arrested.
McGregor, a North Park resident, was being held on suspicion of bank robbery at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in lieu of $50,000 bail.
