Mills College Students Protest Decision to Admit Men in 1991

Share

Gee whiz, judging from the photos you’d think that the female students had witnessed a murder of a close friend. They all looked like mourners at a funeral--tears, sobbing faces, hand holding, consoling, etc. These poor souls have me confused. Isn’t it true that millions of women attend colleges, marry and work with millions of men without suffering any ill effects? And isn’t this phenomenon occurring all over the world even as I write? Are these women planning to go out and work with men in high-level professions? By the look of despair on their faces I would hesitate to depend on them to be team players if men were a part of the team.

Maybe I’m not getting the picture right, but those guys at Yale and Harvard and all the other top-ranked colleges didn’t embarrass us with any hypocritical emotional matinee when women were admitted to their all-male domains. As a matter of fact, most of them welcomed them with open arms. Welcome to the real world, girls.
