From Times staff and Wire reports

Mayor W. Wilson Goode of Philadelphia has called for an independent legal panel to review the cases of nine members of a radical group convicted of killing a police officer in 1978, a Goode spokeswoman said. Karen Warrington said the mayor is seeking to eliminate any doubt as to the guilt of the nine MOVE members, each of whom were sentenced to 30 to 100 years in prison for third-degree murder and other related charges. Goode’s call for the review came on the weekend of the fifth anniversary of the MOVE tragedy in May, 1985, when police bombed the group’s compound in an effort to evict the members.
