TWA Blames Fuel Costs for $143-Million Loss

Trans World Airlines Inc. cited higher fuel costs today as a key factor accounting for the $143-million loss the carrier posted for the first quarter of 1990, compared with a loss of $83.1 million in the year-ago period.

Also contributing to the increase in operating expenses was $41.9 million allocated to improving service, the company said.
