A prominent Panamanian family says it has bought Key Biscayne Bank from Charles (Bebe) Rebozo, the confidant of former President Richard M. Nixon, for an unspecified amount.

A bank spokesman said negotiations had yet to be finalized between Rebozo and three trusts held by the Kardonski family of Panama and Miami.

Rebozo will continue to be employed as senior chairman at Miami-based Key Biscayne Bank, which reported assets of $113 million and deposits of $94 million at year-end 1989.

In 1970, the Kardonski family founded Towerbank, which has offices in Panama and the Cayman Islands.
