San Diego
Barring further challenges from her attorney, Elisabeth Anne (Betty) Broderick will be tried for murder in Vista, a San Diego judge decided Wednesday.
Superior Court Judge Jesus Rodriguez assigned the trial to Vista Superior Court Judge Franklin J. Mitchell Jr. The trial is scheduled to begin July 16.
Broderick, 42, is accused of murdering ex-husband Daniel T. Broderick III, 44, and his wife, Linda Kolkena Broderick, 28, on Nov. 5, 1989. She has pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail.
Betty Broderick’s attorney, Jack M. Earley, has been outspoken in his belief that his client cannot receive a fair trial in San Diego County because Daniel Broderick was a prominent medical malpractice attorney with extensive legal contacts. He has vowed to challenge local judges one by one, if necessary.
