UCLA softball pitcher Lisa Longaker and her coach, Sharron Backus, were named player and coach of the year in the Pacific-10 Conference. It is the third time Longaker has won the honor.

UCLA selections on the all-conference first team in addition to Longaker, a senior, were junior infielder Kerry Dienelt, freshman infielder Kristy Howard, junior outfielder Shanna Flynn, sophomore outfielder Yvonne Gutierrez and freshman utility player Lisa Fernandez.

Bruins on the second team were sophomore catcher Kelly Inouye, junior infielder Missy Phillips and senior outfielder Michelle Montgomery.

UCLA volleyball player Trevor Schirman has been named to the 1990 All-Western Intercollegiate Volleyball Assn. team selected by conference coaches and players. Schirman is a senior middle blocker from Waimanolo, Hawaii.

Second-team selections included junior outside hitter Sto Saipaia of Loyola Marymount, freshman middle blocker Tom Sorenson of Pepperdine and senior setter Parker Blackman of Stanford, who lives in Santa Monica. Chris Young of Loyola received honorable mention.

Nine baseball players have signed letters of intent with Pepperdine. They include pitcher Pat Ahearne of Los Angeles Harbor College, pitcher Jerry Aschoff of Rancho Santiago College, catcher Keven Dell’Amico of Loyola High School, pitcher Mauricio Estivil of Culver City High School and pitcher Curt Gossett of Glendora High School.

Others are pitcher Sky Lasowitz of Los Angeles Harbor College, infielder Damon Lembi of Burlingame High School, infielder-outfielder Lance Marks of Dana Hills High School and outfielder George Paz of Claremont High School.

Jay Pittman and David Belfer won the A flight in the Penmar Men’s Golf Club’s pairs match-play championships. B-flight winners were Herb Cohn and Bob Gotthoffer.
