Harbor District Boundaries

It is good news that the Oxnard Harbor District boundary protests are increasing.
Lack of information and understanding of the impact of the Local Agency Formation Commission’s decision to reduce the district’s boundaries to just Oxnard and Port Hueneme has led to confusion.
One reason voters are unaware of this issue is because good news and good management do not make headlines. If the harbor were in trouble, it would be big news. It is only when there is a crisis that people take notice.
Ventura County is growing, and the harbor is an asset to the entire area. Instead of shrinking the district as recommended by the commission it should remain as it is or be enlarged to include the whole county.
It is important that 25% of registered voters in Camarillo and Thousand Oaks write letters of protest and insist on the right to vote on the issue. Better yet, if enough protests are received by May 14, the commissioners might reconsider their action to reduce the district.
