A Cessna 152 crash-landed on its approach to Montgomery Field Thursday evening, killing the pilot, police said.

Police Sgt. Jim Clear said details of the crash, which occurred shortly before 6 p.m., were sketchy but that the plane went down on the east end of the runway, which is on the eastern side of the airport property.

He said the victim, identified only as a male, died at the scene. There were no passengers, Clear said, and no one on the ground was injured.

“The plane was pretty scrunched up,” he said, “but there was no fire at all from the crash.”

The cause of the crash was unclear, and Federal Aviation Administration investigators were still examining the wreckage late Wednesday night.
