SOFTBALL NCAA REGIONAL : UCLA’s Longaker Stymies Northern Iowa, 2-0
Senior Lisa Longaker gave up one hit and struck out 13, leading UCLA past Northern Iowa, 2-0, in the first game of the NCAA’s Northwest Regional softball tournament Friday.
Longaker (19-1), voted Pacific 10 player of the year for the third time, had a perfect game until Jenny Schultz doubled in the seventh inning. It was Longaker’s 12th shutout.
Junior outfielder Shanna Flynn went two for two and scored both runs. Flynn extended her hitting streak to eight games.
UCLA (56-6) will play Northern Iowa (29-29) in today at 1 p.m. at UCLA’s Sunset Field, and a third game will follow if necessary.
