Offensive lineman Carl Bax of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who has been charged with possession and importation of steroids, voluntarily submitted to a drug test in an effort to clear his name.
The 6-foot-4, 290-pound second-year pro told Coach Ray Perkins that he had never taken steroids and never intended to distribute them after receiving 572 steroid tablets from Mexico.
Bax, 24, was arrested Tuesday in Tampa, Fla. Perkins said that the player admitted taking delivery of the steroids after an unidentified person at a local gym persuaded Bax that steroids would improve his performance.
