Sandberg Errs After 123 Games
Ryne Sandberg’s record streak of 123 games without an error ended Friday night with a wild throw against the Houston Astros.
Sandberg, the Chicago Cubs’ Gold Glove second baseman, fielded a deflected ground ball by Eric Anthony in the fourth inning but threw wide of first baseman Mark Grace.
Sandberg successfully handled 582 consecutive chances without an error. His last error had come June 20 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Sandberg’s streak set a major league record for infielders, excluding first basemen.
