COSTA MESA : Parents Seek Restudy of School Changes
Parents are expected to fill the seats during tonight’s Newport-Mesa School District meeting, asking once again that the board reconsider the decision to alter the grade configurations of schools in the Corona del Mar zone.
On April 17, the school board, in a split decision, voted to reopen Lincoln Elementary School as school for grades four to six, which would change Harbor View Elementary, Anderson Elementary and Eastbluff Kindergarten Center to kindergarten to third.
The grade configuration changes have sparked anger among parents in the Corona del Mar sector. During the last two board meetings, parents have charged that the decision was made without sufficient research and that the board ignored the concerns of the district’s parents.
Ken Couverly, the president of a parents group opposed to the new configurations, said he expected many parents to turn out for the meeting, and present a “good, united front.”
