Champagneforashley, considered among the leading contenders for the Kentucky Derby earlier in the year, was retired to stud after suffering a broken bone in his right ankle last week.
The New York-bred son of Track Barron, held out of the Derby after a third-place finish in the Wood Memorial, was working out last Thursday for Saturday’s Preakness at Pimlico when he suffered the injury.
