Pasadena Police Chief Plans to Retire in June

Pasadena Police Chief James M. Robenson has announced he will retire in June after 26 years on the force.

Robenson, 48, who has been on medical leave since last October, has high blood pressure and other circulatory problems that his doctors have determined could be life-threatening.

Robenson has been chief of the San Gabriel Valley’s largest police department since 1985. He has been credited with directing a successful effort to reduce violent crime in the city and with winning popular support for a new $17-million police headquarters that will be dedicated next month.

Acting Chief Bruce Philpott, who has taken Robenson’s place for the past seven months, said he will stay on the job until a new chief takes over.
