Henson’s ‘Witches’ Hailed by Critics

LONDON —
Muppet man Jim Henson’s movie “The Witches,” about a dastardly scheme to turn children into mice, won him posthumous plaudits from critics.
“It leaves us a testament to the glory that was Jim Henson,” Nigel Andrews wrote in Thursday’s Financial Times.
Adapted from Roald Dahl’s children’s story, the movie stars Anjelica Huston as the head witch and was directed by Nicolas Roeg. Henson, who died May 15 of pneumonia at age 53, was executive producer and oversaw the special effects.
It opens today in London and in the United States this fall.
