Joffrey Board OKs Deal for Arpino’s Return

Share

The Joffrey Ballet board on Thursday ratified the agreement that will lead to the return of Gerald Arpino as artistic director of the company, and announced that a 10-member executive committee will “help run the company on a day-to-day basis.”

The agreement “resolves all outstanding issues” between Arpino and the company, according to a statement issued by the company, which is based in New York and Los Angeles. Arpino has agreed to license his ballets to the company, the agreement said.

The board did not specifically name the executive committee members, other than Arpino, but a spokesman said they will be “members of the board that will be drawn from both coasts.”

In the wake of a wave of resignations of top board members on both coasts, the board named as its new co-chairmen Los Angeles attorney Brad Brian and Carl Epstein, managing director of Halston Enterprises in New York.
