THE SIDELINES : Indy Mini-Marathon Record Set
A Milwaukee man won today’s Indianapolis 500 Festival Mini-Marathon in record time in cool, rainy conditions.
Keith Hanson’s unofficial time was 1 hour, 4 minutes and 14 seconds, breaking the previous record by about 1.5 minutes.
Ruth Ozmun won the women’s division with an unofficial time of 1:18.19. Her hometown was not immediately available.
About 10,000 runners took the green flag at Monument Circle downtown at 9 a.m. and ran the more than 13-mile course to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Light rain and a temperature around 60 degrees proved to be the perfect combination for Hansen.
“It made a difference,” he said. “The temperature was great. It was nice to have a little rain to cool things off.”
