PORT HUENEME : Lifeguard Service to Begin at Beach

Share

Lifeguard service at Hueneme Beach in Port Hueneme will begin this weekend and continue through Labor Day, city officials said.

About six lifeguards will be on duty each weekend at the milelong beach from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. until June 10, said Carol Duffy, lifeguard supervisor with the Port Hueneme Recreation Department. From June 16 through Labor Day, about five lifeguards will be on duty every day, Duffy said.

“We’re only seasonal as far as lifeguard season goes,” Duffy said. “We don’t have a big enough budget for lifeguard service year-round.”

Duffy advised swimmers to stay in front of one of the four lifeguard towers on the beach and to pay attention to the flags flown from each tower.

A green flag indicates that the water is safe for swimming, a yellow flag denotes caution, a red one means that it is not safe to swim but safe to surf and a black ball means do not surf or swim.
