NCAA SOFTBALL WORLD SERIES : Fresno State Beats UCLA, 1-0; Deciding Game Today

Pinch-runner Dina Lopez scored on a wild pitch to give Fresno State a 1-0 victory over UCLA Sunday night at Oklahoma City, forcing a second and deciding championship game at the NCAA softball World Series.

UCLA took a 1-0 lead in the second game, which was postponed by rain in the third inning late Sunday night. Play is set to resume today at 10 a.m. PDT.

In the first game, Lopez scored from third base after Lisa Longaker (20-2) threw a wild pitch. Longaker had pitched a perfect game for six innings. Winner Terry Carpenter (22-7) gave up only two hits.

Fresno State (62-14) defeated Oklahoma State, 1-0, earlier Sunday to reach the finals of the double-elimination tournament. The teams played just one inning Sunday to complete a game rained out after nine innings late Saturday night.

After leading off the 10th inning with a walk, Carie Dever raced home from third when Julie Smith hit a grounder to short.

Marcie Green (15-1) got the win for the Bulldogs. The loser was Dena Carter (23-7). Oklahoma State fell to 43-11.

UCLA (61-7) entered the championship round by beating Florida State, 3-0, early Sunday.

Lisa Fernandez hit a two-run home run in the first inning, and Missy Phillips had an RBI single in the second.

DeDe Weinman (13-3) was the winner. Debbie DeJohn (25-8) was the loser

Florida State finished at 49-15.
