SANTA ANA — A Santa Ana man was killed and two others were injured Monday when their car spun out of control and struck a telephone pole.
Pedro Gil, 44, a front-seat passenger in the car, died at the scene of the 4:30 a.m. accident at 1200 W. Edinger Ave., Police Lt. Rich Hicks said.
The driver, 47-year-old Miguel Ortega of Santa Ana, suffered minor injuries after he lost control of the small compact car, crossed the center line and rammed the pole, Hicks said. Ortega was being held at the UCI Medical Center’s jail ward and was booked on suspicion of felony drunk driving and manslaughter, police said.
Another passenger, Amamcio Castillo, 35, of Santa Ana, suffered major head injuries and was taken with Ortega to the medical center. Both men were listed in stable condition, Hicks said.
