Mike Rozier, Houston Oilers running back, was charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon, and free agent Brent Flowers was charged with reckless conduct for firing the gun, police said in Dickinson, Tex.
Oiler fullback Alonzo Highsmith was questioned and released without charges. The three players were in Highsmith’s car, which was being driven by Flowers when it was stopped by Galveston County deputies and a policeman.
Dickinson patrolman Phil Tracy said he was working as a security guard at an automobile lot at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday when three shots rang out from a passing vehicle.
A pistol was found under Rozier’s seat.
“He said he bought it in the streets of New Jersey six months ago for $50,” Tracy said. A check on the gun revealed that it was stolen from a sporting goods store in September 1989.
