Virus Keeps Mister Frisky From Running in Belmont
Mister Frisky, who was unbeaten in Puerto Rico and at Santa Anita but a disappointment in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, will not start in the Belmont Stakes on June 9 because of a virus, his trainer said.
Laz Barrera said Mister Frisky will be shipped back to Hollywood Park “as soon as he’s healthy.”
Barrera said Mister Frisky came down with the virus after being shipped from Pimlico to Belmont Park following the May 19 Preakness.
Mister Frisky won his first 13 starts in Puerto Rico, then stretched his unbeaten streak to 16 in California, winning three stakes, including the Santa Anita Derby. He finished eighth in the Kentucky Derby and a well-beaten third in the Preakness.
