** 1/2 YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, “Eclipse,” Polydor. Recruiting a brand new band of fellow Swedes and trying to write real live songs this time out, the gonzo guitar virtuoso attempts to expand his audience beyond those who’ve already bought into his “fastest frets in the West” routine. But for all his lip (and wrist) service to Paganini ‘n’ Bach, Malmsteen’s idea of ROCK seems to begin (and end) with Deep Purple. Aside from the Metal Lite “Making Love” and the Focus-pocus of the instrumental title track, Malmsteen offers little more than arrogance and aggression--which, in some circles, passes for what’s known as real rock ‘n’ roll, dude.
