Lindemann Leads Duncan by Two Shots in Amateur
Richard Lindemann shot a three-under-par 69 on the South Course at Torrey Pines Saturday to take a two-stroke lead over three-time defending champion Pat Duncan after one round of the 58th San Diego Men’s Amateur Golf Championships.
Ken Earle shot a 72, and four were tied at 74.
David Sittner’s net 65 on the North Course led the first flight, and Cy Peacher and Herb Schamp had 64s to share the second flight lead.
At Balboa Park, D.E. Kay led the third flight with 65, while three--Jose Salazar, Vince Martinez Sr. and Michael Carlson--were tied for first at 66 in the fourth flight.
SAILING
The Long Beach Yacht Club’s Camouflage, skippered by Alvin Schultz, won its second consecutive race and was the overall leader after two days of the San Diego Yacht Club’s Lipton Cup Regatta.
On corrected time, Camouflage won by just four seconds over Cadenza, skippered by Carl Eichenlaub of the San Diego Yacht Club. Quintessence of the Santa Barbara Yacht Club, skippered by Donald Hughes, was third.
With the final race today, Camouflage leads the overall standings with 1.5 points to 5 for Quintessence and 6 for Cadenza.
SOCCER
Mark Semioli scored past goalie Anton Nistle with less than four minutes left to give the San Francisco Bay Blackhawks a 1-0 victory over the Nomads at Southwestern College.
The loss dropped the Nomads to 4-6 in the Western Soccer League. League-leading San Francisco is 7-1.
TRACK AND FIELD
UC San Diego will hold two Twilight All-Comers Track and Field meets this Friday and Friday, June 22, at the UCSD track. The meets begin at 5 p.m.
Participants must purchase event stickers for $2 for each event and must enter at least 20 minutes before the event begins.
