Solo Women Travelers

I enjoyed Peter Greenberg’s May 13 article, “A New Attitude Toward Solo Women Travelers,” but believe it should be taken further.

There are now many older, retired businesswomen traveling and there is discrimination--not so much on airlines as in hotels and “reluctant restaurants.”

I say discrimination mainly because of double-occupancy rates. Single women are satisfied with smaller rooms. We use one bed, one set of towels. We eat, we tip. Hoteliers could make come-back friends, and instead they are actually pushing away potential for greater income. Rarely is a hotel booked to capacity.

I have traveled all over Europe, the Orient, Australia, Alaska, Hawaii and the Caribbean and I will not patronize hotels that charge more per person for a single guest. Please build more single rooms.
