Pop superstar Michael Jackson underwent a series of diagnostic tests at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica on Monday to determine the cause of chest pains that had been causing him discomfort him for several days.

Jackson’s physician, Dr. Steven Hoefflin, said the 31-year-old entertainer remained in stable condition. Neither the doctor nor Bob Jones, a spokesman for Jackson, would disclose any further details about the singer’s illness. However, Jones did say that Jackson had been “feeling bad” for several days and began experiencing chest pains during a dance-exercise session at his Encino home. He was admitted Sunday night and was expected to remain hospitalized at least overnight Monday, officials said.
