Monrovia : Road Show for Water

Share

In an effort to boost conservation, the Monrovia Water Department has brought back an advertising gimmick made famous by the old Burma Shave road signs.

A series of signs placed along city streets remind motorists to “Save H20,” “P.D.Q.,” “Or We’re Dry,” “Be Waterwise.”

Robert K. Sandwick, director of public works, said the signs are part of a citywide voluntary conservation effort that includes distribution of water-saving kits and a display at the Monrovia Community Center.

During the 1977 drought, Monrovia residents voluntarily cut water usage by 17%, Sandwick said.
