Bellflower Deputy City Administrator Nelson Oliva is resigning to become the assistant city administrator of Hawaiian Gardens.

Oliva, 35, began working at Bellflower City Hall in 1980 as a part-time recreation leader. In 1985, he became a full-time employee and was rapidly promoted. In 1988, Oliva was made deputy city administrator in charge of public works and community development.

He said it is difficult for him to leave his fellow employees, but said it was time to try “something new and different.” His resignation takes effect Friday.
