SIMI VALLEY : Senior Housing Measure Approved

Share

Simi Valley voters have overwhelmingly approved an amendment to the city’s slow-growth ordinance that will allow construction of more affordable housing for the elderly.

Measure B amends a 1986 slow-growth ordinance that allows about 43 building permits to be issued every three months, with 20% of the permits going to senior housing.

The amendment will allow developers to borrow from future permit allocations if their projects are specifically for low-income seniors. Some residents had complained that Measure B will benefit only the elderly and that more needs to be done for first-time home buyers.

City Councilman Bill Davis, who co-authored the measure, said he was pleased but not surprised by the community’s strong support of it.
