THOUSAND OAKS : Council OKs 490 Housing Units

Share

Thousand Oaks will allow a dozen developers to build 490 housing units--ranging from affordable apartments to high-cost single-family houses--during the upcoming year.

In awarding the allocations, the Thousand Oaks City Council acted within the limits of the city’s 1980 slow-growth ordinance, which requires the council to allot a maximum of 500 residential units annually.

Fourteen developers had requested to build a total of 828 residential units in the city this year.

As a result, the city ranked the developments in order of quality, awarding points for use of open space, contribution to city services and low traffic impact.

The Lynn Oak Project--a nine-unit housing development planned for Lynn Road and Starfire Avenue--received the most points, 162.25.

The council allocated units to all but two of the developers, but they will be guaranteed spaces next year. Ned Cohan Development Co. wanted to build 228 single-family houses and condominiums.

G.M. Realty sought approval to build 36 condominiums.
