SANTA PAULA : State Panel OKs Water Rate Increase

Share

About 6,600 Santa Paula residents will have to pay 4.7% more each month for water under a plan approved Thursday by the California Public Utilities Commission.

Beginning next month, the bill for the average water customer who uses 18,774 gallons, or 2,510 cubic feet, of water will increase $1.18, from $24.67 to $25.85.

The Santa Paula Water Works requested the rate increase to offset a $50,374 increase in the cost of purchasing power and a $53,437 increase in the cost of purchasing and delivering water to its customers, said Armand Rendon, the commission’s public information officer. The increases occurred over a two-year period, beginning 1988.

The commission regulates privately owned utilities and must approve changes in rate structures.
