Police Thursday identified the woman who wounded her boyfriend and then shot and killed herself Wednesday night at the El Cajon Transit Center. She is Mary Rios Romero, 31, of San Antonio, Tex., who died of a single gunshot wound in the head, the coroner’s office said. Her boyfriend, Rodolfo Chavana Jr., 26, was in good condition Thursday at Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he underwent jaw surgery, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Chavana, who apparently wanted to break up with Romero and took her to the trolley station, was shot in the face and neck, El Cajon Police Lt. Robert Lein said.

According to police, Romero left San Antonio on Tuesday to visit Chavana, who lives in the 200 block of Cottonwood Drive in Santee.

Lein said Romero took a .25-caliber automatic pistol from her purse during a quarrel and shot Chavana in the back of the neck and in the face.

Then Romero shot herself in the head, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene, Lein said.

There were seven witnesses to the shootings, police said.
