BALTIMORE — A train engineer figured it was safe to leave the engine running while stopped in a rail yard, but he returned to find empty tracks. Someone took the train on a two-mile joy ride.
The ride ended when the train ran out of track Wednesday, authorities said. The culprit escaped, and no injuries or damage was reported.
Engineer C. L. Keibaugh left the CSX freight train engine running but hid controls needed to get it moving, police said. The train-taker apparently found those controls.
