National Geographic Goes Big Screen: The National Geographic Society is expanding into giant motion-picture production. The Society and IMAX Systems Corp. have agreed to jointly finance, develop and produce IMAX films. The films would be in the areas of natural history, science, exploration and peoples of the world. The first film will involve IMAX audiences with the endangered mountain gorilla in Rwanda. The gorillas were the subject of the “Gorillas in the Mist,” the story of naturalist Dian Fossey’s battle to save the animals. Sigourney Weaver received an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Fossey.
