COUNTYWIDE : Some Cable TV Rates to Rise in Summer
- Share via
Cable TV costs for some Oxnard and Port Hueneme customers will increase this summer by as much as $1.50 per month.
Jones Intercable, which serves about 34,000 people in the two cities, will charge $16 for basic cable service beginning July 1, a $1 increase over current rates. Remote control cable boxes will cost an additional $3.45, a 50-cent increase over current rates, said Linda Merkel, a spokeswoman.
Jones Intercable plans to use much of the increased revenue to purchase backup batteries for its satellite receiving stations, Merkel said.
Matt Lombardi, a management analyst for Oxnard, said that the cities of Port Hueneme and Oxnard now do not have the power to regulate cable company rates.
