Glendora : Construction Limits Sought

Share

The City Council has scheduled a special meeting to discuss some residents’ desire for tighter city controls on new home construction.

At the council’s Tuesday meeting, speakers representing the Leadora/Comstock Coalition said they fear that a large house under construction on Leadora Avenue may signal the beginning of a bad trend.

Mayor Bob Kuhn agreed, saying the replacement of old houses with large new structures “will be one of the largest problems faced by the city over the next few years.”

Ken Schneider, spokesman for the group, suggested the city limit such construction, possibly by creating an architectural review board, or by requiring builders to notify landowners within 600 feet of planned developments. Everett Hughes, a developer, welcomed a study of the situation but warned that setting standards for homes is not an easy task.

The council decided to hold a special session on residential construction on July 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers.
