The La Habra City School District will use an anonymous gift of $48,000 to buy 20 computers for Washington Intermediate School.

“We are extremely appreciative of this donation,” said Antonio Valle Jr., president of the district’s board of trustees. “We respect the wishes of the donor that he remain anonymous.”

Washington Principal Gary Mantey said the computers will be divided into five mini-labs that will be located in classrooms throughout the school.

“Every student in 7th- and 8th-grade language arts (classes) will have almost daily use of these computers,” he said.

School district officials would only describe the donor as a La Habra resident whose children attended Washington.

In a letter that accompanied the cashier’s check, the donor compared his gift to the planting of trees on the school campus, Mantey said.

“They were planted years ago, by people who are anonymous, and we enjoy their shade and comfort today,” Mantey said. “The donor is hoping that this donation, also offered anonymously, will provide students with learning and enjoyment in future years.”
