Cartoon Fever

Hey, cartoon buffs, did you miss last summer’s “The Second Animation Celebration: The Movie!”? Well, you’re in luck this week. The Ojai Film Society will present a benefit screening Saturday at Thacher High School’s Lamb Auditorium. The feature-length compilation will showcase 24 films from six countries, representing a vast range of animation styles and techniques, including computer animation, clay animation, pixilation and traditional cel animation.

Some of the highlights will be five episodes of “The Simpsons” taken from “The Tracey Ullman Show”; “Tin Toy,” the first computer-animated short to win an Oscar; and “The Marathon,” a tribute by two Soviet citizens to the enduring magic of Mickey Mouse. In attendance at a reception from 7 to 8 p.m. will be David Silverman, director of “The Simpsons”; Bill Kopp, former creative force behind Roger Rabbit and “The Simpsons”; and Chris Casaday, creator of the abstract entry titled “Pencil Dance.”

Proceeds benefit the Ojai Film Society. The screening will begin at 8 p.m. Admission is a $25 donation, $50 for sponsor, $75 for patron and $100 for gold circle. Thacher High School is at 5025 Thacher Road, Ojai. For reservations and information, call 646-2826.
