Fred Severud; Designed Madison Square Garden, Gateway Arch

Fred Severud, 91, a structural design engineer whose high-profile projects included St. Louis’ Gateway Arch and Madison Square Garden in New York. Severud founded his own firm in 1928 in New York City. He worked on plans for the Gateway Arch, completed in 1965. During the 1960s, he also worked on the design of Madison Square Garden. He also was structural engineer for the Guggenheim Bandshell, completed in 1969 at New York’s Lincoln Center, and for Toronto City Hall, completed in 1965. In Miami on Monday.
