A 38-year-old substitute has carried the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon to the top of the soccer world--at least for a day.

Cameroon became the first team to advance to the second round of the World Cup with a 2-1 victory over Romania on Thursday at Bari as Albert-Roger Milla scored twice.

Coupled with its shocking, 1-0 victory over defending champion Argentina in the tournament opener, the African champions have four points and can finish no worse than second in Group B.

Milla, one of the oldest players in the tournament, overpowered defender Ioan Andone and beat goalie Silviu Lung with a finesse shot in the 76th minute and with a hard shot 10 minutes later.

In the 88th minute, Gavrila Balint scored for the Romanians.

Goaltender Thomas Nkono anchored a makeshift defense and made two great saves to assure Cameroon’s second upset.

Yugoslavia 1, Colombia 0--Yugoslavia bounced back from its 4-1 defeat to West Germany on a goal by Davor Jozic at Bologna.

In the 74th minute, Jozic took a long pass off his chest from Safet Susic in front of the goal and, before the ball hit the ground, sent a shot into the upper corner.
