From Times staff and Wire reports

A judge has decided that investigators for Earth First! bombing suspects Judi Bari and Darryl Cherney may inspect the car that blew up but are not to move the vehicle from police impound. Alameda County Superior Court Judge Henry Ramsey Jr. ruled Friday that the car can be inspected visually, but no parts or other contents may be removed. Further, the judge said, the defense is allowed to put the car into a container to prevent air pollution from contaminating evidence. “This vehicle has a very important evidentiary aspect,” said attorney Richard Graham, who represents Bari and Cherney. The bomb exploded in Bari’s car May 24. Bari and Cherney have been booked for investigation of violation of explosive laws, but formal charges have not been filed.
