Cal State San Bernardino

Cal State San Bernardino held its 24th commencement Saturday. Degrees were conferred on 1,654 graduates, with 1,253 receiving bachelor’s and 401 receiving master’s degrees. Arnold Garson (University of Nebraska, 1964), editor of the San Bernardino County Sun, delivered the keynote address. From his text:

“...as you make the choices that will shape your personal and professional futures, I hope you also will make a commitment -- a commitment to make only the choices that are consistent with high moral values and unimpeachable ethical standards.

It will not be easy. The walkways of the business and professional world that lies just around the corner from this graduation day are strewn with temptation.”

UC Riverside

UC Riverside held its 36th commencement Saturday. Degrees were conferred on 1,230 students, with 920 receiving bachelor’s, 225 receiving master’s and 85 receiving doctor’s degrees. Ceremonies for the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, School of Education and Graduate School of Management were held Saturday morning. Ceremonies for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences were held Saturday evening. Edward J. Blakely (UC Riverside, 1960), professor and chairman of the Department of City and Regional Planning at UC Berkeley, delivered the keynote address at both ceremonies.

Looking Ahead

* Northrop University will hold its commencement at 7 p.m. Friday at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott Hotel. Thomas Jones, chairman of the board of Northrop Corp., will deliver the keynote address.
