MOORPARK : Forum to Cover Anti-Gang Fight

Share

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department has planned a second community forum next week on crime trends and youth gangs in Moorpark--even though police and other officials say the city does not have a gang problem.

Two City Council members called for the community forum after residents raised the issue of public safety. It is scheduled Tuesday, June 26, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at Moorpark Community Center, 799 Moorpark Ave.

Moorpark has not seen serious gang violence, Ventura County Sheriff’s Lt. Rich Rodriguez said.

But because of questions about gang violence in other parts of Ventura County, deputies will outline their crime-fighting efforts in Moorpark and answer questions, Rodriguez said.

Moorpark had one gang-related drive-by shooting in recent months, he said. Last November, five teen-agers were wounded by an Oxnard gang during a drive-by attack at a pizza restaurant in Moorpark.
