NAMES IN THE NEWS : Atlanta Mayor’s Son Arrested
The 19-year-old son of Mayor Maynard Jackson has been arrested on charges of assaulting a 30-year-old woman on the street.
Maynard Holbrook Jackson III was charged with simple battery Monday after a sheriff’s deputy saw him pick up a friend, Maria Norma Duarte, and fling her to the ground, police said.
Duarte received minor cuts on her arms and legs, Officer D. B. Troutman said. She was also sprayed in the face with Mace, police said.
Police said the younger Jackson was arguing with the woman over the can of Mace. They gave no other details.
Jackson was being held on $1,050 bail for a court appearance today.
