Growth Prompts Los Alamitos to Raise Purses 6%
Healthy attendance and handle prompted an announcement late Thursday that Los Alamitos Race Course will increase purses 6% for the remainder of the summer quarter-horse season.
“This is the second purse increase of the summer,” said Dr. Edward Allred, president of Horsemen’s Quarter Horse Racing Assn. “Overall, we’ve been able to boost our purse structure nearly 20% since the beginning of the season. It is a direct reflection of significant increases in attendance and handle at the track.”
Through the first 44 days of the summer quarter-horse season, Los Alamitos has experienced an increase of more than 20% in attendance and more than 7% in handle over last year’s figures.
