Unitarian Church Poetry Reading

Poetry reading by the congregation’s poetry group will take place at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the Orange Coast Unitarian Universalist Church, 1259 Victoria St., Costa Mesa. The program, conducted by Marsha Hudson of Huntington Beach, will consist of the reading of favorite poems and original works. Participants include Jean Brookhart of Huntington Beach; Jake Jaramillo of Costa Mesa; Margaret Gerard of Fountain Valley; Eleanor Tucker of Newport Beach; and Charlie and Birdie Reed of Fullerton. Temple Eilat of Mission Viejo has been awarded the Whizin Institute for Jewish Family Life Dissemination Grant by the University of Judaism. Rabbi Bradley S. The Rev. Charles A. Endter, senior pastor at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 12301 Magnolia Ave., Garden Grove, concludes his 34 years of ministry this month. Endter held his first worship on May 6, 1956, in the white frame building of the Presbyterian Church in Westminster. The congregation moved to temporary facilities on Lampson Avenue in 1957 and then to its current location in 1961. Endter will conclude his official acts by conducting a wedding on June 30. The Choir of St. Mark Presbyterian Church will present its second annual Pops Concert on Sunday at 7 p.m. The program features music from Broadway musicals, including “Carousel,” “Phantom of the Opera,” “A Chorus Line” and “Paint Your Wagon.” Donations of $5 per person or $15 per family will benefit the Mary Magdalene Project, a residential program that helps women leave prostitution. The Rev. Bruce Larson will be installed as co-pastor of the Crystal Cathedral by the Rev. Robert H. Schuller on Sunday at both the 9 and 11 a.m. services at 12141 Lewis St., Garden Grove. Larson has served as pastor of the University Presbyterian Church in Seattle, Wash., since 1980. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Seattle Pacific University. Hugh Ross, a Christian apologist and noted astrophysicist who in recent weeks has spoken before the Soviet Academy of Science and in several Moscow universities, will talk about his experiences at Grace Church during Sunday’s 9 and 10:45 a.m. services and at a special 6 p.m. service. The Soviet speaking engagement allowed Ross the opportunity to present a Christian, biblical perspective on selected areas of scientific inquiry to the Soviet scientists at the academy.
