Rise in French Crime Is Biggest in 5 Years

PARIS —
The crime rate in France rose by 4.27% in 1989, the first increase in five years, according to official figures published Friday.
The rise was caused mostly by increases in drug offenses, car theft and offenses linked to illegal immigration, the police report said.
