California IN BRIEF : SAN MATEO : Man Held in Random Shooting Dies in Jail
An ex-bus driver charged with a fatal random shooting rampage died at the jail ward of San Mateo County General Hospital, apparently from his second suicide attempt, officials said. Paul Bellazain, 48, was found with one end of his bathrobe was tied around his neck and the other was connected to the motorized frame of his bed which he apparently activated to strangle himself, an official said. Bellazain, who had been on disability leave from his job as a bus driver with the San Francisco Municipal Railway, was in custody for fatally wounding James Vazko, 43, a copy editor with the San Francisco Examiner, May 1 with a shotgun. He was also accused of wounding a motorist and wounding two Daly City police officers in a shoot-out.
